This expert is a pulmonologist and an expert in sleep disorders. This expert treats patients with a wide variety of sleep disorders, ranging from respiratory disorders of sleep -- such as sleep apnea and obesity hypoventilation syndrome -- to non-respiratory sleep disorders including circadian rhythm disorders, narcolepsy, parasomnias, and insomnia. This expert currently serves as a Professor of Medicine and Director of the Sleep Disorders Center and a Sleep Medicine Fellowship training program. In practice, this expert cares for patients in clinic as well as in the intensive care unit.
This expert's research has focused on REM-related sleep-disorders, perioperative complications in patients with sleep apnea, as well as best treatment strategies in patients with obesity hypoventilation syndrome. This expert is also interested in studying the impact of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy on metabolic and cardiovascular outcomes in obstructive sleep apnea.
