This materials engineering, polymer sciences, and corrosion expert holds a Ph.D., is a registered Canadian professional engineer, and has extensive experience in materials engineering, polymer sciences, corrosion, materials testing, and research and development. This expert has over 20 years of experience in chemical and materials engineering across markets including oil and gas, mining, petrochemicals, consumer goods, and military applications.
This expert has experience in coolant chemistry and related root cause analysis involving backup generators, mining equipment, and diesel engines. That work has included reviewing coolant chemical analysis, coolant history, metal contamination, and additive packages in support of root cause failure analysis for diesel engines.
While leading a materials sciences practice, this expert opined on a number of large matters and several smaller matters involving coolant chemistry, additive packages, and engine failure analysis. One matter involved an allegedly deficient or underdosed additive package used in engine coolant at an industrial facility. The analysis concluded that the package was likely deficient or underdosed, but not enough to cause rapid and widespread engine failure, where ongoing wear and tear indicated that the engines had already been damaged with high metal wear indicators before the alleged coolant issue.
Another matter involved coolant containing an allegedly unstable or unsuitable additive package associated with rapid engine failures. After review of the coolant chemistry, the analysis concluded that the additive package was likely unsuitable for the end use and likely not acceptable to some engine manufacturers. Immersion testing also showed heavy staining, discoloration, and rapid corrosion of some alloys.
This expert has also addressed smaller matters involving suspected fraud and engine contamination in recreational vehicle and automotive claims. This expert has testified in North America and abroad in both French and English.
